Hey there. I just started collecting coins a couple days ago when I found a bunch of pennies in the basement of my house. Since then I look at all coins and found a 1964 D over D Jefferson nickel. Does the nickel come with only one D or are they all D over D if the D is in the right spot? I won't have a microscope til tomorrow but I will post pics. Can you tell me what you think it would be graded?

@kpz, first welcome to CCF. Second, I look forward to you adding a close-up pic of the mintmark to this thread. This is the best I can do with the current pics that you have posted and it is hard to tell what you have there.

Ok yes those are much better pics, but a straight-on one would be best. Also, for your reference, here is a link to the varietyvista page showing the known RPMs for the '64-D nickels.

@kpz, ok yes that is a better close-up of the mintmark. I'm not sure that I'm seeing a RPM though. With the coin in hand, is one of the serifs split? Where do you see evidence of the remnant first punch?

Ok well do you mean the circular blob of metal in the center of the letter D? If so, that is unlikely an RPM. I'd encourage you to look at the varietyvista link I posted upthread a little ways to see what known RPMs for this date/mintmark look like.
