It looks like the copper layer is showing through on parts of the reverse. I have seen this on a few Jefferson nickels but not on Kennedy's On the nickels, they will completely turn green where the copper is exposed. It would be interesting if it limited to a particular year but I doubt it.

It looks like a strong matte gray color kind of like the Robert f Kennedy that came out in 98 and the edge of coin on obverse side is not like all the other 97s I have
