A box of cents comes from a distribution center like Dunbar , Wells Fargo ,etc. There all pennies are mixed together in one bin and maybe a separate bin would have all uncirculated one date and mint . It's highly unlikely to go through a whole box without finding a single Wheat cent . Generally members find anywhere between 8 and 50 Wheaties in one box .

So you are saying that this box was just some sort of anomaly where there I got no wheaties and almost no pre 82s?

Welcome to the Community! Buying coin rolls from the bank is certainly fun. Maybe others can share their geographic centric advise. For me living in Northeast Ohio, I find it more successful to ask for $10 worth of penny rolls and I ask that they give me the ones someone brought in rather than those that come from professional services. You tend to get more pre-82 coins that way. I average 15 pre-82 per roll. I have a friend in California (San Diego area) who averages only 5 per roll. Perhaps he needs to go to a different bank.
