Is handling the mail 7, 8, 9 times before opening it safer than just opening it?

It certainly is but I've refined my method. I now have 7 boxes in a line.
The post arrives, I put in an empty box, wash my hands, put the box at the end of the line.

When there are 7 boxes in a line, I take the box at the head of the line into my 'office' and open the post and return the box to be used again.

Incidentally, the postie's wife is a bacteriologist and the thinks this method is pretty safe. She pointed out that virus material will die more quickly on metal than on paper or cardboard, so coins inside will be safe to handle.
