Having done something like the on a horizontal surface, the thought of a vertical display is not something I'd look forward to (but they would line up a lot more easily). Plus they're applying grout but nothing about a sealant in the article -- the zincolns are going to rot in about 30 seconds, especially with all the humidity and splatter.

It looks great now, but give it a week.

Doesn't seem very practical for an area above a cooking space.

Gah. It's been that kind of day. Take your pick:
If they're copper-plated steel instead of zinc, are they as prone to rust/corrosion as their American counterparts? Some kind of sealant still seems like a good idea.

If you really wanted to "paper" a stove/wall/bar table/ANYTHING you could easily buy non-zinc coins at a fairly reasonable price.

The bronze pennies are probably glued in position with epoxy resin and clear lacquered over, to produce a smooth easy clean surface.
Depending on the particular chemical specification, epoxy resin is relatively safe in food areas. I have specified epoxy resin flooring in a commercial kitchen application.

I would have preferred to use gold coins!
They are just about as useless these days for circulating legal tender, as those big old Pommy pennies are.

I think I see a 1914D Lincoln Cent in there.
