Hi! I'm sorry if I'm not in the right category, feel free to move the post if I'm not

So, I'm starting my coin collection (I have one roman coin that I bought in a numismatic market) and I'm thinking about getting a few more (roman, greek and trying to spend 40/50€) but I'm not sure where could I buy. I see that you guys talk about ebay and Vcoins but I got some questions...

There's any ebay list that I can know some "safe" dealers?

Does Vcoins work with a lot of coins online stores (Because I see spanish stores, american stores e.t.c)? Are all of the stores "safe"?

Since I'm from Portugal, there's any online store that can ship for cheap in Europe?

Thank you guys! And I'm sorry if these are basic questions

I don't know of a "safe" list of ebay dealers.

It's common for seasoned collectors of ancients to advise newbies to avoid ebay since there are many bad guys using that platform to take advantage of potential "marks." But there are LOTS of good guys there too - like our own Dr. Sinski (Cody111111).

All sellers on Warren Esty's fake sellers list are best avoided, including the sole notorious VCoins dealer who earned his spot on it:
http://augustuscoins.com/ed/fakesellers.html

Many of the sellers on Warren's list are on Forum's too.

Warren also compiled a list of good guys - but it doesn't include ebay good guys:

I can't help you with regard to the shipping costs in Europe. Your best bet is to first spot the coins you are interested in, then to research the shipping from those dealers.

Nice! Maybe the best option is Vcoins. And I'm going to take a look at the lists, for sure.
Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated!

The first thing you should do is study in the field of ancient coins for a couple of years. Go to a large public library and read all that you can, and buy some good books on the subject.
Research all that you can with your keyboard. The CCF is a good place to start, because we are a friendly bunch here, and some of us have a very extensive depth of knowledge and experience with ancient coins.

I have a good numismatic friendship with three dealers who who are very experienced in ancients. All of these dealers conduct public coin auctions, two of them internationally.
All of these dealers have been in business for more than 40 years. All of them have them have given me very useful advice over the years. My learning curve is still steep.

All of my personal experience in this regard suggests that a good numismatic friendship with a specialist ancients dealer who knows his game, is a good idea.

Closely examine all known fakes you can get your hands on, so that can you learn how the various types of fakes are made, and how to expose them for what they are. I have a small specialist library on the subject.

If approached this way, the collection and study of ancient coins may well become become a lifetime interest.

There are some nice coins on ebay and despite there being many sellers of fake coins on there you should not dismiss buying from there straight away.
You can always post links or pictures of coins you are interested in on here and someone would soon let you know if they look 'iffy' or not.

Try some of the sellers that are on this forum. FVRIVS RVFVS has some nice coins on at the moment that are worth a look, as do other members. Just click on the ebay tab above their profile.

Thanks for the "shout out"
I handle almost exclusively bronze items
Generally things I would keep for myself if money were not an issue
Most novice collectors are attracted to silver (and gold !)
I was too once
But nothing is certain in life
But unless I feel 99% (or better) about an item I don't like getting involved

My best advice is to look for a local dealer that you might be able to establish a personal relationship with
Based on trust !
But in these times of "plague" that is difficult

But most of "us" here are ready to give opinions
If you find something
Anywhere
Feel free to ask questions
It's what this place is intended for

Thank you FVRIVS RVFVS for the reply. Local dealers are good but sometimes you don't find coins that catch your eye... That's something that happened with me...

I've seen your coins and I liked some of them. I'm not actually just looking for silver or gold coins but I search for some coins of emperors that I know, and like the history, mainly.

As I said, I liked some coins that you have for sale and I'd like to know some info, there's any other way that I can contact you or can we keep talking in here?

Thanks!

You might try messaging through my profile
I tried yours but it's blocked
Or try "contact seller" on the listings you looked at
They ( ebay) limit the information flow but simple questions can be handled fairly easy

Yes, I can't contact you because new members do not have access to the email system and I'm a new one. I might try messaging you through ebay then.
