How many coins on average from America the Beautiful Quarter working die? According to CPG, when there is a design change, mintage per working die goes down a lot. ATB Quarters always have a design change, so we can assume the mintage will be a good bit lower than the Washington quarter. We also know, per a State Quarter die set for sale, that the Mint keeps records of how many total coins were minted per each working die, along with the reason that working die was retired (e.g., large die crack).

I am trying to do some estimation math and figure out how many working dies are used per America the Beautiful Quarter design. With this information, I can find a ratio of how many working dies were doubled die varieties to normal working dies. For example, over 100 doubled dies are known for Harpers Ferry. How many dies were normal?

It would be great to know how many dies are retired VERY early as well. Maybe an average of all dies.

Since the mint keeps records, why not ask for them directly? That would be public information which I believe that you are entitled to know.

Not sure for ATB but for states it was around 25k per die. I'd imagine with tech getting better probably around 30-35k per today.

25K per die is probably WAY too low. I don't have figures for the state or ATB Quarters, but on the old Eagle rev quarters die life was around 500K. I could see a lower life for the State and ATB but not just 5% of the standard life. I might expect 350 to 400K.

Thank you all! I did email the Mint, as their response was very unhelpful. I thought my mod status of FB Coin Opp might help, so I mentioned that, but they still didn't forward the email to technical. I will assume the 350-400K! I do think it's weird that a die set exists with such specific information. Where did they get the info and who put it together? Big questions lol

GC, I checked out your finds, and I am so jealous of the WAM and rare RDV! Those are bucket list finds. Why such a low estimate on ATB die mintage? CPG says 250K - 1,200,000 for early ATB. So for a coin like Harpers Ferry, if all coins were thoroughly mixed, you would have a 1/6 chance of pulling a doubled die.
