Interesting how the engravers initials rose up with the bubble.

I'm confused, is this an error or is it caused by a torch?

I'm not going to pop it....my question was a joke. Does anyone know if the early loonies were plated or solid? Charlton lists the composition as .915 nickel and .085 bronze but doesn't mention plating for this year.

They are not solid... I think clad is a better term than plated - because the bronze layer is pretty darn thick. If you search here for photos posted by Zonad, you'll see a few examples where someone peeled back a bit of the bronze layer.
