I realize 68 are different than other dates but this one seems really a lot thicker letters and numbers even more so than from other 68 I have

The 1 in the date is smaller, because of an over polished die issue. That's why the numbers/letters may appear bigger. The size of the devices get altered from frequent die polishings. http://www.error-ref.com/thinning-a...gn-elements/
