Not exactly a key date in terms or the original number minted but I've found this particular coin to be hard to find at any grade above VF. Asking price is ~$600 but I'm thinking about it. I like that it seems to have the original tone on it...That's relatively rare for the NFLD coinage.

Usually when coins get about $500, I rarely buy them without examining it in hand first... even with a series that I know like the back of my own hand, regardless of the third party grader.

Amen to that! That's why coin shows still exist (current restrictions aside).

Don't buy it... I want it Looks to have enough detail to make EF, but surfaces I can't really get a feel on from the photos.

Actually, I'm a little hesitant around the grade - I'm not sure I'm seeing an EF-40 in the obverse. Though the pictures are not great. I wish I had it in my hand and was looking through a magnifying glass!

I wish I had it in my hand and was looking through a magnifying glass! Tbh the sharpness was the one thing I felt really confident on, have you seen some of the Newfie coins that get EF-45 grades? The thing I would be most worried about is if it's been cleaned or not, it looks original, but I've seen ICCS straight grade too many problem coins to not be cautious, but they do seem to get the base grade (ie g/VG/f/vf etc) right most of the time. This one actually doesn't look too far off from being AU, but that more dependent on the amount of remaining luster.

Looks like a decent original example . You are right very tough to find one much better ! We sold an ICCS AU50 , for right on 550.00 USD in AUG 19 . That piece was found in England and was pretty pleasing with lustre and just a light obverse rub.
