I thought I would share this Washington quarter I carved.
I know Washington quarters were first made in 1932, so I thought I would carve a unique 1911 D.

I like it. Good job! What was it, a 44?

As a kid I made 1914-D's from 44-D Lincoln's. I made a very nice profit from the kids in the neighborhood.

This cannot be an altered date fake.
Why?
As everybody already knows, Washington quarters were never made in 1911.

Probably best termed as a shed job fantasy.

Sometimes, there is a fine, but rather gray line between fake and fantasy.
Chinese origin fake coins are often concocted in such a way so as to skirt a way around the Law, with impossible fake date and / or mm combinations for type. I just accept, and then turn my back on such coins, as being part of our numismatic scenery.

Same happens with classic cars, stamp collecting, gemstome collecting or whatever.
Problems can arise, however when people try to sell such products as legitimate, and that is where the Law needs to be strong enough to protect buyers.

I maintain a collection of fake coins, primarily for my own education.

I have fooled around with coins in a few different ways myself. Can be lots of fun!
Have thought of 'modifying' 1944 dated coins as well, but never got round to doing that.
I have seen a few impossible fantasy fakes in dealers' junk boxes.

Hi jpgrajek,
Thank you for your kind words about the Quarter.
I don't know if I would be able to carve what you would request,
but what did you have in mind?

As long as it isn't done with an intend to defraud, no it's not.
