Possible error? Penny is very shiny on back no shield. I'm a newbie at this. Help appreciated.:)

Copper plating has been (deliberately?) shaved off, probably using a flat file.

I think that it looks rather neat!

Really doubt it's deliberate, sel. People seem quick to assume deliberate tampering on here, but I think accidental wear is just as likely. If you look at where the plating is removed, it's all the highest points. All the things that would naturally be worn down by abrasion. Perhaps fell in the road and got run over and dragged a little bit by the friction.

Could have been done deliberately with a fine file. Being dragged across a roadway would have caused a bit more damage--IMO. Either way, a cool looking reverse. I have a few dozen Lincoln cents with this kind of 'surface reduction'--mostly from the 1980s to very recent.

I've seen a few of these and I disagree with everyone saying this could be done with a file. This wear was done by rotating the coins from a central point

How it happened is irrelevant. All that is relevant is that it cannot happen during the minting process.

There are an infinite number of ways a coin can be damaged. There is a finite number of ways for errors to happen and this is not one of them.
