Ken,

First you need to decide who you want to grade the coin. If you are OK with ANACS, you can go online and get the submission forms and do it yourself without a joining fee. PCGS and NGC require membership and these are explained on their websites. You can also submit to PCGS through an authorized dealer. If you visit their website, they have a listing by state. There are other TPGs, but these are the three I would recommend.

if you only have a few coins to be graded then it probably wouldn't be worth paying the membership fees for NGC or PCGS unless you have some high valued coins that you are thinking about selling sometime soon. I think with PCGS and NGC if you sign up for one or two of their memberships you get a voucher for like 5 free gradings which almost pays for the membership fees but you have to decide if it is worth it to you. Just remember if PCGS or NGC deems the coin has been altered or has a problem in anyway you will be out the submission/grading fees and the coin will not be put into a slab of any kind it will be sent back to you in a 2x2 flip (known as a body bag) and you still have to pay submission fees and shipping both ways and get the coin back the same way you sent it, at least with ANACS if they deem the coin to be altered or a problem in any way they will still slab the coin and grade it but there will be a notation of the problems the coin has on the label

Dont forget, if your a member of ANA you can send your coins to NGC- From what I understand they dont charge a membership fee for ANA Members.

You can also submit coins to NGC through ebay, thus you do not need to be an NGC or ANA member. In addition, if you submit with the "online" NGC form, you also get a 10% discount from NGC on any grading service.
