When I am coin roll hunting, I weigh all of my 1983 D pennies hoping for a copper one. Today I came across a 1983 D penny that weighed in at 2.75g. It has no foreign substances on it. Ive never had a zinc penny weigh that heavy or a copper weigh that light.
Any thoughts? Is it out of the +/- range of zinc?

If the planchet was double plated, that would make it heavier.

Mint tolerance is +/- .10 grams. Can you post a full coin pic front and back and edge?

Thank you for adding the pics. I was trying to see if there was any sign of it being copper plated after it left the mint or if there was a sign of it being a zincoln. I am unable to help, sorry.

Have you compared the thickness to another one? Could have been rolled slightly thick
