So, I bought Trajan denarius, Pax reverse (not sure about RIC number, maybe someone could help), it was very cheap because of condition (about 20$)

I cleaned it very gently (being careful not to make any damage to the coin which wasn't before)
And I was very happy with the result, and then after some time coin got interesting rainbow patina, and now I think it is even better. (it is only coin in my collection that got rainbow patina)

Overall I think it was worth the time invested and money spent.

Share your thoughts, I know many people dislike rainbow patina (but I think it is temperate on this coin and does it justice)

I'm a little confused, the first set of pictured shows a coin devoid of any patina. The second set shows a coin with a patina that should take a good amount of time to develop unless it was chemically treated. How long between the time you cleaned it until the patina developed?

it probably has to do with something that speed up reaction, because it happened in a less than year, but I am not sure what. Because cleaning procedure was done with no chemical, same as other coins which hadn't got that patina ( I cleaned it with distilled water, brushes and metal pick)
and it is stored with other coins at home (so no special conditions)
Could it be something which previous owner had done so it accelerated the reaction?

I have found that cleaned silver, if put in hydrogen peroxide for a few minutes, can result in a similar patina.

Cleaning coins goes against everything I've been taught, but there is a lot more detail evident in the cleaned coin here. A very interesting patina to be sure.
