I know this is a D/D south, I don't think I am even remotely reading anything into this one.

HOWever, it doesn't match up with any of the 20 D/D RPMs listed on Variety Vista for 1946. I don't see any that so prominently features the top serif smack in the middle of the upright.

Anyone have any idea? The closest I can find is RPM-015 but by stage D is almost invisible and the top serif of the secondary is more prominent than the stage C with less below the bottom serif of the primary.

Based on the weakness of the 46, I would put this at stage D or later, yet I see almost all of the secondary D south of the primary. Based on that I would expect an earlier die stage to have a very prominent secondary D south the primary along with a very prominent top serif of the secondary in the middle of the primary upright...

I'll bite.

Why is that not an RPM but these are:

1946-LWC-D/D-South---Can't-Match-It
1946-LWC-D/D-South---Can't-Match-It

What is different between the three?

Mine has a piece of serif sticking out the side and a clear curve in the center of the MM and signs of the lower part of the D sticking out the bottom.

one of the other 2 has the curve of a D in the center of the MM and a bit of the lower part of the D sticking out the bottom.

The other one looks to me like it could be simply die gouges and polishing/grinding damage but someone decided those high spots looked enough like another D to count.

I guess I have to try to figure out how to take my pics on an angle instead of straight-on...

Your coin does not seem to match any of the listed RPMs (There's 20 on VV, 95 on Wexler's site, and 30 on CopperCoins).

I can't see the curve you describe inside the mintmark, or anything below the mintmark, in the pics you've provided. Adjusting the lighting to be at more of an angle instead of head-on would make weak repunching more visible.

To me it looks like damage that pulled that extra metal off the mintmark. Not sure where you see all of a secondary mint mark. I just see a small piece. If you're confident, send it to Wexler
