While searching Cent/Penny rolls I cam across this 2009 D Lincoln Cent. When I noticed this cent I picked it out to toss it. When I had it in my hand I realized that the marks/damage had no texture. It felt like worn penny. All the damage and the texture do not add up. It weighs 2.5 grams.

2.5 grams is what it would normally weight, or around there. Well, the damage would cause loss in weight, but not a lot. It also looks like some of the damaged metal just got pushed over, so it still contributes to the weight.

Normal cent, just heavily damaged.

Thanks SilverCents, John1 and ijn1944. I did not want to put the cent back in circulation and find out in 10 years it sold at auction for $25,000. I have seen some high dollars paid for a coin I would have pitched if I found.

maybe there are two answers - it does looks trashed post mint and it very well could have been. However what is the star like designs around Lincolns neck on the obverse? And what about the numbers imprinted and the design around the diameter? A better picture with close ups would help but I would not send this back into circulation.

There's only one answer. It's a spender. Everything on the coin is damage, Nothing more
