1931-D Lincoln Mistake?.

You did ok (maybe $10 to high), 31-D is a tough one to find in nice condition. Check out ebay completed listings to see how you compare.

I certainly don't want to make your esophagus an acidic one but $55 seems high to me.

It also depends on what you feel the grade is in hand. The reverse looks AU but the obverse EF. I'd say $30 would have been about right for this coin raw.

I've overpaid for a lot of Lincolns this year too, but a '31-D has to be AU to approach $50.

Nice!...acidic!...I was thinking 31s when I bought it. I never would have paid $55.00 for a 31 D mint. Personally, I think I could have got a nicer one for $15 to $20...I got burned, simple as that. I gotta get a Tums.

I was trying to be nice, some of you guys are ruthless. It is about a $20 max coin, but as long as the buyer is happy with it then it does not matter what he paid. You learn as you go with this hobby. If you do your DD before buying a coin (ie:check completed listing on ebay, graysheet, heritage etc..) you become a more educated buyer. I have a whole box filled with beginner buys from ebay, I keep most of them to remind me of how far I have come along. Acidic- next time you are looking for a cent try the "want to buy" forum here. Some of us (I know I do) have multiples of many Lincolns. I do stand by my previous statement that a 31-D is hard to find, be it in BU condition. I know I looked months to find one for my collection. I think I got one for Thad also, maybe it was a 30-D.

Everyone makes mistakes. It just means you'll do better next time.

Yeah, but I won't. I'm thinking of gluing it somewhere where I'll have to look at it every day. A physical reminder to be aware that there are people out there that are willing to take you if you let them.

clembo, I know you work at a coin shop. Honestly, would you even list this coin at $55.00. There is no doubt in my military mind that he knew that coin was way, WAY over priced. It was presented in such a way as to be believed it was a semi-key. If I had my book with me I would have seen that the key was the S mint. I don't say its blame I put on the dealer, but shame. He really did himself a dis-service though. I spend a lot of money on coins and now he has lost my business and the business of everyone I talk to about him (if I choose too, right now I don't choose too). Still, when all is said and done, its MY fault for not doing my due diligence. That doesn't mean I not above going over there and, maybe take up some of his time asking stupid questions and generally being a pain in his back side for a while. "You shouldn't sell the new Pres. dollars 'cause In God we trust is not on there." (I know its on the edge). I'll have to think of some more annoying questions.

What questions about coins really annoy you?. C'mon, I need some ammo.
