I am posting a 1988 D WAM in decent condition. I am surprised that it commands such a premium when they seem to be prevalent. I have 7 that I have set aside from CRH. Where are these coins being sold as I could only find one in the archives of HA?

I don't understand why these were named Wide AM varieties. The Wide AM really doesn't have anything to do with the variety. Both varieties, RDV-005 and RDV-006, have a Wide AM. The variety is actually be identified by the difference in the FG initials. Yours shows a normal 1988-D reverse:

The Wide AM is for the 1998-2000 Memorial cents. (They should have had RDV-007 instead of RDV-006) There are also Close AM's on the 1992 cents.

with all three of you. Which are considered more rare between 88 with 06 or 89 with 05 ? If that's the right way to ask

Yes they REALLY messed up with the WAM on this. ebay is swarmed with people selling these as a variety when it's normal. The variety is the RDV-006 with the reverse of an 89. When you search some of the graded examples on PCGS, they even have some normal ones graded as the variety too. Wish it would get fixed. All 88s have the Wide AM

I don't believe 89 with rdv-005 exists, Rob. As I understand, the reason the variety came to be in the first place was that they were so low on reverse dies that they had to dip into some of the next year's dies to finish production of the 88s. As such, there were no 88s left to mistakenly use in 89.

The 1988 RDV-006. As already mentioned, all the 1989 cents are the RDV-006. The ones found are extremely worn die examples of the correct year. The die polishing/die wear altered the 'FG' initials. The location and shape of the top of the 'G' are normal.
