Hi All,

I have sold on ebay for a long time. I have had some ok times, some reallt good times and some bad times (where ytou just scratch your head).

I am in one of those bad times (where ytou just scratch your head).

Can someone give me some insight to the belwo two auctions one of them being mine.

Why the big difference in prices?

Your insight would be appreciated, I hope I can get back on the road again soon.

Lars

Well, I like your photo better. And you did not blind me with colored writing, and your postage if cheaper. So your listing is better.

The two had a bidding war on that coin while yours was still for sale at a cheaper price.

I think you should not scratch your head on this one or you'll be bald before you can work it out. LOL

Hi Lars

I dont see anything wrong with your auctions, but looking back at the previous feedbacks and Items bought and sold by the person bidding on your coin, they are kinda all over the place,, and the bidder on the other auctions seems to have a little more on the ball when it comes to coins, most of there previous they are the seller.

it also looks like they may have gotten the bidding bug and no one was going to beat them.

Hello Lars
I am no expert but I have discovered a few things about listing.
1. If you are using a stock photo then don't tell people to look at the photo/scan for quality/Description.
2. Split up your listing into seperate groups Title-Description-Shipping-Conditions. Try to put more than one line in each group. Change the appearence of each group Font or colour but stick with only a couple of colours.
3. If these items have been doing well then show people what they have been selling for on other auctions.
4. Its a big risk but I always start at 1 Cent that way I get a few bids in early. The more bids an Item has the more likely people are to bid on it. It makes no sense but it seems to be true.
The last three Items I sold went for significantly more than the buy it now price. But people could not resist that 1 Cent start price.

Thankyou you everyone for your thoughts.

As luck has it I sold 1 of these with a BIN for $60 and another of line for $60. This made up for that one poor performer.

Nohope587 I think your are right, time to give my auction site a freshen up.

The finish time and day also have an affect. I never try to work out ebay...I use a patern that suits me and given the amount I sell and my feedback I am starting to get a following. This means I generally get at least "average ebay prices or better".
Rest in Peace

Lars, you have asked about One of the Great Mysteries of Life. Sometimes, it just doesn't make any sense at all. Your auction looks better without the gimmickry of multi-colored fonts and has better images. But, since overall, the two auctions are essentially equal, I think Rick came closest with the explanation: the other auction had a bidding war ( = feeding frenzy) and bidders just got carried away. I will admit that all the other factors such as start and end dates and times play a role as does presentation of the information in the title, description, and images, together with numbers of transactions and positive feedback score, and even seller's location. Sometimes, I think, the seller's shoe size makes the big difference.

I recently sold a simple Boy Scout patch for $42. It happened that patch had a 2005 date on it. The friend who gave me that one patch then sent me FIFTY more patches, identical to the first except they were dated 2004. While I duplicated the first very successful auction word for word and even matched the auction times and days of the week and have sold the hoard only one at a time, the best I've been able to get is $10.50 (lowest was $7.16 which is still profitable). Only thing I can figure is a feeding frenzy on the first patch. I guess ya gotta catch the sharks in a hungry mood.

Interesting fred, I thought the great musteries of the world were Women?

I think you are right with the sharks, need to get them while they are hungrey (Figuratively speaking). When it comes to the time and date of the auction. I have always tried to have them finish of a night or a weekend, which I will continue with.

As the saying goes, time to get back on the horse and keep riding.

KLD,
Seems like one of those random ebay things. Your listing is nicer, and less "schlocky". If you are looking to improve, an even more detailed pic would be nice as a buyer. I didn't check ned times/dates for au-so don't know if that is a factor. Hope it brings more next go round!
