Final night searching at this desk here in Virginia, as pretty much moving to Pennsylvania tomorrow for good. Got my hands on 1500 unsearched memorial cents for a final hoorah to see if I could hit at least one more nice one after so many fond memories and great finds sitting here.

First hit was 1960-D/D RPM-002 in VG. Got a bit better with a 1963-D 1DO-020 in MS-61, then some minor 1963 proof DDR. First major hit for the evening is:

1972 Lincoln Memorial cent doubled die - DDO-006, FS-106 about MS-65

Die marker is the tiny rim Cud between the L of LIBERTY and the I of IN

Beautiful cent, I have one but it's pretty much shot! Nice to see they can still be found in that shape!

Another nice find. Where do you buy most of your unsearched cents? Do you plan on visiting the Philly mint? Good luck on your move, hope all goes well.

Awesome find! Were these coins just rolls from the bank, or older coins that had been stashed away for a while?

Thanks for the kind words! I've been skimming the board a bit but haven't sat down much the last couple days.

While I get coins from a lot of different sources, in general most of my finds are not from rolls I get at the bank. I search those quite a bit when I'm working during my down time, but I find it better to look for collections and buy those. I end up with a lot of stuff I don't want in the process, but anyone with a lot of pennies to sell is happy to find someone who will buy them.

And I've been to the Philly mint, and enjoyed the self-guided tour. Although the "error" coin on display near the end was something like a minor die crack on the upper left of the shield of a modern Lincoln Cent, and given the amazing errors that have come out of that mint, I found that disappointing. If I end up going back I would prefer it on a more intimate tour of the workings, just never looked into whether that can be set up or not.

Tonight's project is a small bag of older circulated wheats, and after 150 coins am batting a perfect 0.000 for anything interesting at all. Some nights are better than others.

Hmmm, maybe you missed something then. In the last 25 coins I pulled one of those 1937 class II DDOs, a strong 1942 doubled eye and a 1940-S Retained Cud. I have nothing here right now to put them in separately so will attribute them later but at least that 1942 is a good one.

Send me more of your discard bags!
