My family has a safe deposit box and I went there today to remove some coins and place them in my own safe. I took home a roll of peace/morgan dollars and a bag of coins. The bag merited a Silver Eagle, a Morgan dollar, and several bicentennial Kennedy's, while the roll had what you thought it would have in it: Morgan and Peace dollars. Except for two odd ones, it was normal. One of them, a 1924, had a nice color. The other, a 1927, just stuck out to me because it was newer. (hey, I collect Lincoln cents, not Peace dollars.) So I pulled out the old price guide and checked the mint marks. The 1924 was hard to read, but I think it was an S. So I look in my guide, and I see $7.25. But this book is from 1973, so I just use it too check the mint quantity. I looked at my other one, the 1927, or should I say 1927-S. Yeah, that's right. So I run across the room, grab my price guide, and became happy. Not that I plan on selling either of them though.

UPDATE: I believe I might even have a VAM-6 now that I look at the Morgans...

I'm looking into that one. But tragedy has struck as well: the 1927-S has disappeared! It was around VF, and the 24-S is AU-MS. The Morgan does seem to be a VAM-6, and in even better news, I now have a hidden fireproof safe.

Well, I think most of collectors gets their first push from the family.
Pure genetics or family compulsion? :)
