Dang ok thanks john. Struck out with this one but I've confirmed around 4/7 or 8 coins as true double dies, I'll take it :). I still have maybe 100 more coins to catalog and organize so I'll be back soon.

I notice that you have glare on the tops of the devices and the rest of the image is dark. Do know why your images look like that? It is because the coin is not laying at a lower angle Also you need to diffuse the light to remove glare. When you get a chance post an image of your setup and we'll see if we can make some suggestions on how to improve your images. This is what I use for micro images:

Note mu light is above the coin at 12:00. I used a ramp made out of a 2X2 and a piece of cardboard on the open edge of the 2X2.

Tape it shut and cover with dark material. (The dark material helps to eliminate glare. Also works on coins you are using full images of on a scanner. Turn the coin side down you want to scan and place dark material/colored paper and it will help reduce glare off the coin)
Also note I use a square lid off the top of a square tube for half dollars to prevent scratching the table on the scope and also brings the coin a bit closer to the scope. Also note on the ramp area. The light source is at 12:00 and the widest angle of the ramp is a 6:00. If you need to rotate the coin, turn the coin, not the 6:00 angle on the ramp. With that angle it takes the light from source, directs it on the coin and reflects it into the scope. If you turn the ramp, the coin will appear dark. With the correct angle, you get a nice golden glow on the coin when you look though the scope.
