Continuing with the Gold Certificate theme. The $10 GC. I wish they had done the backs in Orange Gold like the Large Size.
Nice example!

With the Hawaii note this is my type set, from the bottom up.

1928 Gold Certificate
1929 Federal Reserve Bank Note
1929 National Note - Type 1
1929 National Note - Type 2
1934 Federal Reserve Note
1934 A Hawaii note
2017 Federal Reserve Note

Still missing the 1928 which I'll probably get, and the 2009 which I'll probably skip. Am I missing any others?

Jbuck,

I gave the coin shop one more chance as they have all the notes I need, but after today I'm done. Guy gave me a price and when I get there it's $30 more than what he gave me. He said he priced it wrong (I thought the price was low, but since he quoted it, I would expect him to honor it, well nope). This one was I felt a fair price so I picked up this one. But I just don't feel loved as a customer. I don't think we are a good fit for each other. Time to look for a new place. Any one have a $5 Hawaii note at a good price

You gave it an honest try. You are right to move on.

Building a relationship with a dealer takes time, and if you are a small player, you shouldn't expect many discounts or "gimmes" until you start spending real money, consistently, over a period of time. Mis-quotes happen, but stay focused on the opportunities and not perceived personality conflicts, especially if you are unwilling to buy raw notes online.

@coinfrog, actually a majority of my raw notes are purchased online. I have 4 dealers that I purchase from locally. 3 I have no qualms about giving them my business. I have spent lots of money at each, but the last dealer I just don't get a warm and fuzzy, he has every note I want and it's painful to shop at his dealer. In the end I would rather give my money to people that appreciate it. Ask Allen's Coin Ship in Ohio, they have no problem taking my money and I have no problem giving it to them. There are a few things Allen's doesn't have and this has been the issue. So the few missing notes I want will just have to wait.

Any plans for 1928 star notes? If you are staying at the 20 and lower demons they are available without a lot of effort. The gold cert stars will be somewhat more money but attainable.

Honestly, no. I never cared for serial numbers or star notes or even varieties on coins or "fancy" serial numbers (which star notes are to me). Just not something that I have an interest in getting. A lot of people do, but I don't understand the fascination. Next I'm looking to get the missing fractionals and a few other large notes that are in my price range.

I have been reading this wonderful post. I have been collecting off, and on the past ten years. I collect Morgans, and Peace dollars. I always drift over to the paper currency at my local coin shop. I am always tempted to buy, but it's not within my shopping budget the time. But I would like to dip my toe into currency stream. I have a $150 a month budget to start, but where would a man start. I like the large printed currency, but maybe the smaller notes are the better way to go?

Before you start get one of the books I purchased. I recommend this one:

A Guide Book of United States... https://www.amazon.com/dp/079484635...mob_ap_share

I can't tell you what to get you have to decide, there are many notes in your price range. The large notes there are only a few for $150 and under. My budget is $240 a month. I also sell some prints that I do as a side hobby and use that money also. The most expensive note I purchased was $140 and that was ordered today. Most small notes you can get from $75 and cheaper.

Good luck and start a thread so we can live vicariously through your purchases!
