I am currently building a set of New Orleans Mint Morgan dollars. Recently I purchased a few BU coins from APMEX and was very pleased with my purchase. However, I noticed that the AU coins in some cases were either half the cost of the BU or two-third the cost. Do you guys/girls believe paying the extra money on the BU coin is worth it or should I just purchase the AU coin? My goal for the collection was to buy AU or better but I somewhat feel that the BU is too high of premium. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Only you can decide if the premium is worth it. I'm doing an AU/BU set of Indian Head cents and sometimes I stick with AU when the cost is much lower. Other times the BU coin has nicer visual appeal. I buy by the coin not the grade.

The BU coins will be easier to sell should you decide to change your coin portfolio in the future.

Whenever I get BU Morgan dollars these days, I get them in slabs. Some years ago, I did get 60 unslabbed Morgans in EF/AU for my silver stack.
