Being from Australia, I can't give specific advice, but some general advice might be to contact the US mint and ask what service they use to ship their coins.

And welcome to the forum.

Thanks! Honestly joined in desperation. Not really a collector, but becoming one after buying a couple Aussie lunars, koalas, and kooks.

QuitQuit, read here:

USPS states mailing Restrictions are:

Coins; banknotes; currency notes; securities payable to bearer; traveler's checks; gold, silver, platinum, manufactured or not; jewelry; and other valuable articles may be sent only in registered items.

Exceptions:
Coins sent to or from collectors or dealers may be mailed in ordinary (uninsured) parcels.

The restriction stated that coins can only be mailed via registered items, with the exception of collector coins. That is, you may ship collector coins in any way you want, registered or not.

That does not "exclude" you from sending insured parcels containing collectible items. You have to formulate your request to the teller accordingly however. Avoid saying the words "money" or "coins". After all, this isn't spending money. Stick to "medals, non-circulating mint items, collectors items, etc".

100$ insurance is included at to cost.

Avoid duty by declaring a gift of $60 value or less.

Good luck.

I believe the maple leafs are considered bullion, and not coins, as there is no tax on them in Canada. (unlike coins)

Gold bullion is prohibited. Not silver.

Gold/silver is mailable into/out of Canada. Maples are marketed by mail by the RCM worldwide.
Importation Schedule is below.
I have become quite proficient at this over the years. Canadian Customs Info...applies to Postal Imports diverted for inspection(from USPS) as well.

Most Favoured Nation (MFN) Tariff (note: Trade Agreement Acronyms.)
Goods originating from all countries, except North Korea and Libya, are entitled to use the rate of duty specified under this column.
Applicable Preferential Tariffs
This column lists reduced rates of duty for goods based on trade agreements such as the:
North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA);
United States Tariff (UST);
Mexico Tariff (MT);
Mexico-United States Tariff (MUST);
Chile Tariff (CT);
Canada-Israel Agreement Tariff (CIAT); and
Canada-Costa Rica Tariff (CRT),
or those based on special tariff provisions such as the:
General Preferential Tariff (GPT);
Least Developed Country Tariff (LDCT);
Commonwealth Caribbean Countries Tariff (CCCT);
Australia Tariff (AUT); and
New Zealand Tariff (NZT).
The requirements of the particular trade agreement or tariff treatment must be satisfied in order to benefit from a preferential duty rate. You must possess a valid certificate of origin for the specific trade agreement at the time of importation. For example, to claim the UST you must have a valid NAFTA certificate of origin. Various proof of origin requirements exist for all other preferential tariff treatments. These can include Form A, Certificate of Origin or the Exporter's Statement of Origin. In addition, the goods normally have to be shipped to Canada from a beneficiary country on a through-bill of lading.

*note: a certificate of origin is seldom required for coinage or manufactured bullion, since the issuing government or body makes the origin quite clear on the coin/round/bar itself.
The appeal document that arrives with your package is simple and short... an accurate appeal will yield a re-imbursement in approx. 2 weeks... or better yet fill out your own documentation ahead of time.
