I did some research and found this on HA.com describing a 1964 SMS Cent.

Quote:
Like all of the 1964 SMS coins, the present Lincoln Cent displays a razor-sharp strike with high, squared-off rims, and heavy, haphazard die polishing, here more prominent on the obverse.

What are you seeing that makes you think this is from a Special Mint Set?
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

My camera is not good enough for y'all to see what I see but the lettering away from rim on in God we trust as well as the details compared to the M68 I seen on H.A mine is well more defined front and back as well as liberty has there nice spread on it as well with a nice satin finish

Dang. It could be. With the detail and coloring, I think you might have yourself a 1964 SMS

Looks like an ordinary 1964 cent from the photos. If you can provide much higher resolution ones, might be easier to tell. Usually an SMS is going to be in special plastic, or a holder, and very high grade not AU like this example. But of course some do get circulated.

Honestly I'm looking at a PCGS image of an SMS and a non-SMS side by side and other than the quality of the devices I can't discern any difference in the appearance of the rims. Here's the non-SMS PCGS MS-67. https://images.PCGS.com/CoinFacts/3...954_2200.jpg

The rim should be sqaured off like the 1964 proof and the motto on top touches the rim as mine doesn't as well.

So the one difference that seems reliably detectable would be the quality of the surfaces. The SMS ones have a satin finish, the non-SMS ones do not. So we'd want to see satin finish on the fields plus razor sharp strike everywhere to include the rims. Your pictures are a bit blurry so it's hard to assess the surfaces. Maybe send to PCGS or NGC to see what they think. The 64 SMS is so valuable that it would be really rare to ever find one in circulation.

But your rims do look consistent with SMS, and the motto isn't touching so... maybe!

Looks pretty much like my 64P. I'm probably not as great an expert as others in the forum, but I wouldn't rely on the rims as a distinguishing factor. I think you'd really need to get in close and look at die markers to be sure on this one. The sharpness of the strike seems normal.
I do love your enthusiasm hoping to find rarities! I think less than 50 actual 1964 SMS strikes were made, so this one is extremely unlikely.
