Do you want to know if it's a 'thin eights' or a 'broad eights'?

F-12 heavy cleaning. What's going on with the word Canada?

The debris on CANADA appears to be extra metal and curiously resembles a hockey stick. Big plus for the coin!

VG10 looks about right, I also agree, early 25 cents are hard to find readable. Cool coin!

That's not a hockey bat...that's loose cardboard.

I'm not seeing a particularly harsh cleaning (some brushmarks but not polished)... and the current look is fairly pleasant. A little air or envelope exposure would benefit since the surface has good texture yet.

I'd bet that could squeeze into an NGC VF Details holder on a good day. For giggles... here's PCGS45 vs. ICCS20. ICCS piece is lower pic quality, but you get the idea.

Of course, below that is a piece that somehow, someway did NOT warrant being called "cleaned".

These (3) all 1888-dated, of course:

Sorry to get off halfdollardan's coin in question, but just continuing to peruse 1888 examples in iCollector archives...

As you can see, below are both ICCS. I'm not knowledgeable about ICCS time frames regarding anything like grade drift, being less/more lenient on cleaning and such... BUT, if you were to grade these TECHNICALLY (strictly based on wear - I don't do net grading), what would you call them?

I find taking pictures of coins with white light or even more so flash tends to exaggerate hairlines. Clearly the original coin here has been cleaned but I'm betting that it is not as evident in hand as on pictures.

Nice F-15 that does not look cleaned.
