Found this in a penny roll. Same size and thickness as a penny. Thought at first someone had sanded off the embossing. Then it occurred to me it could me a un-embossed blank. It is copper. Thoughts?

It looks as if you can see the appearance of Lincoln. What is the cents weight?

I wouldn't clean it, but you could give it a bath in acetone. I agree with @jim0815 that t is important to get a weight on this piece.

Wow, acetone did much more than I expected. I thought it was oxidization on the surface, which acetone wouldn't have removed. Looks possible, this is an interesting one for sure. I'll wait to hear what the experts say.

I used this event to go ahead a get a scale. It says it will be here on Wednesday.
When I have a weight, I'll post the results.

It's possible it was a penny that someone buffed it down so much it became slick like that .
