Is this worth getting slabbed? Will the nick in the obverse field prevent it from a straight grade?

I'll say AU-55. Gold is so soft it's hard to say whether it has issues or not. Still a nice coin.

I'd say AU-53 to AU-55. Very nice coin.

I agree with AU-55, it's a real nice coin and should straight grade.

Thanks to all for your opinions. There is quite a range of suggested grades here, probably a difference in value of $1000. As someone who doesn't submit coins for TPG, I may need to in this case.

Please don't forget to share the grading results with us once you get it back from TPG!

Posting your grading results helps us, too!

Thanks and good luck!

After 2 years, I finally got this one graded. Anyone want to take a new guess with the new glamour shot? You vs. PCGS

I'll throw out a conservative AU-58.
By the way, what's up with the N of UNITED?
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Huge difference between the original pics and the current PCGS pics. Original pics suggest the coin is cleaned; PCGS current pics make the coin appear more "natural". So, based on that I now think the coin is high XF to low AU.

Maybe this is a case where the coin was cleaned 3 years ago and has now toned back to a more natural look. (?)

I'll upgrade to AU-58, but not a fan if straight with that gouge.
