I found this coin in some pocket change I had. I am pretty sure it is a 1970 S Small Date "Level 7" Just not sure of the condition. How much do nicks from circulation affect the grade/value?

This is a large date 1970-S. Note the 7 is actually below the zero, not level.

Try using a business card to tell if they are small dates. Even if the coins are rotated (a trick seen on ebay a lot) the cad will help you see what is and what isn't a small date:
