Hey Merc.no apologies necessary. Not even close. I would not come here if I was going to get milk toast softy answers on all things coin. Lol. No, I come here because I know I will get brutally honest answers whether I like them or not. But it is a rare thing for me to have an issue with the answers (I will admit, I have a nice 1918-D FB Merc I am afraid to post before grading. Lol. Because it will probably get tore up. Haha. Just send it in for grade, ask questions later
). Having said that, a few points on your response (all responses):
1. Yea.only FB, or no cigar. No middle ground. Got that. But they are all split as shown. The bottom bar has that common flat area and cause a "Hmmm" when looked at. Like T-BOP noted, 50/50 on it. But.if I were asked to give a one way or the other Yay or Nay on FB?....it would be a not happening. Nay.
2. Pictures can be deceiving. Not to say anyone got it wrong here. But in-hand, the coin has a dull but nice silky look to it. Very nice cartwheel effect on both sides. The blue tone, which is really pretty in various lights, under 100x magnification are tiny crystals spread about the coin. Most coins have white little crystals spread about. Some more than others. These just happen to have a blueish tint. More in some areas, less in others. Look like minerals to me. Like Apatite, which is used in fertilizer. Hmmm.formerly in farmers pocket? Draw in farm house? Lol. Never know. So, are they natural? Or from foul play? Don't know. The other light toning's look natural to me. Some iridescence to them, and look nice under natural light as well.
3. The Mole under magnification looks like a basic boring carbon spot, or maybe some other stain. But placement is cool IMO. But.it is a degrader I imagine on a technical grading basis. I renamed her "Mercury Monroe" by the way. Haha. Flows better. Meh. Always need a little humor in things.
Overall, I am not sure I will have her graded now. The consensus here gives me pause. Though I am a risk taker, so we will see. If I do, I will post results/pictures, with all the glorious, or gory 'Details' (no pun intended).
