Its very cool when you can find a love token that was made to order for you , way back in the past sometime , possible back as far as 1875 ,LOL came Complete with how I do the Initials of my sir name !

I haven't conserved it yet so its pretty black on the obverse but I will be doing something to help it a bit .

That's an interesting one. I've seen a few IHC tokens from the same period with that style of engraving--perhaps it's contemporary?

Its possible ,Im certianly not an expert on coin carving , but I would like to think that it was done during the date time frame on the coin !

it adds a certian amount of romance to the coin .

this one will appear in my wifes Christmas stocking , I have not decided if I would have it put in a bezel or just add a nice silver chain and loop ?

Oh well she will get it as its done and like it ! LOL

How do you tell when it was made?

Hi DL There is really no way for me to know for sure when it was made , but I assume that by comparing the artistic styles from known period pieces a good Idea of when it was made could be fomulated .

like I said I kinda like thinking it was made somewhere close around the date on the coin , is that for sure , the simple answer is no ,I don't know for sure.

As Metalman stated, there is no way to be absolutely sure, but modern pieces don't have the same 'look' as the originals.

This one does appear to be from the correct time period.

Also, another way to tell is the condition of the coin. I have a very high grade 1892 Barber dime (XF-AU) that is a love token.
No one would do that to a nice coin today, (not if they had any brains.) So, condition is one possible way to tell.
