I have come across many listings on ebay lately like this one

http://cgi.ebay.com/Replica-40-Linc...ny_W0QQitemZ160296464405QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item160296464405&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:1240%7C66:2%7C65:12%7C39:1%7C240:1318

If you look at the Morgan they are selling. you will see "replica" stamped into the reverse. My guess is that all of the Lincolns have this as well, but they are only showing obverses..

Having said that, without the "replica" stamped on the Morgan, that is one scary(I.e. genuine looking) counterfeit at first glance.

There have been many testimonials already that those Chinese sellers ask the buyers if they want "replica" stamped on the reverse. One buyer even set up a sting with the Secret Service. The coins were delivered without the required markings. I don't have the link but it shouldn't be too hard to find. We should all be very, very concerned for the health of the hobby.
Rest in Peace

Did you notice the name of the seller: "Honesty519"? Rather scary to think that there might be 518 other Chinese sellers of fake coins ...

Be aware. And be VERY scared!

Part of me wonders how the final bid got to $99? What exactly would a collector do with:
Quote:
1909s...5 1910s...5 1911s...5 1912s...5 1913s...5 1914s...5 1915s...5 1909sVDB.....5
Then I considered those guys who sell shotgun rolls of "unsearched wheats" with one key coin on the end.
Granted, it would be pretty obvious if the reverse had "copy" stamped, but a 1909-S obverse might easily get a high bid.

Kurts here is what I think you are missing, the seller emails the buyer and asks if they want the word replica on the reverse and if the buyer says no they ship them coins without replica at all (Obverse or Reverse) so it has no markings of being a replica and then becomes a counterfeit

If you did understand that is what setednut was saying then I just read your last post wrong and apologize

Bryan--
I'm just speculating here on this particular auction, and why anyone would drop $99 for those.
The auction I cited doesn't specify whether the coins are marked as replicas, and I'm just throwing out an idea. I'm skeptical by nature, but don't claim to be right.

I do not mind buying copies of coins well beyond my lifetime earnings (like my avatar). But this seems to go a little too far. Checked feedback of buyers and sellers and seems like a booming business between just a few individuals (China to USA). Just my opinion.
