suncoins_liquidations I am looking at filling some holes in my wheats collection and this auction seems like it would be a good deal: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...330287300503 330287300503 (is the auction number) I would like to hear what the community thinks of either this auction, or this seller. Thanks. *** Edited by Staff to move from Main Coin Forum ***

I saw that auction the other day and was considering it too. 6 cents a coin with free shipping. Reasonable price. Just assume the coins are largely 40s and 50s, like any other ebay wheat seller. You likely will be able to upgrade a few with the promise of AU coins in the mix. Not much to lose really.

I don't know this particular one, but it fits a common pattern on ebay, as seen in their glorious writeup. (Sarcasm warning ahead) Quote: All bags being offered for sale remain sealed as shown in the pictures and un-searched by us exactly as we purchased them! --So does that mean somebody else searched them to death already? Despite what they say, very few "unsearched wheat" bags on ebay are just that. A truly unsearched bag of wheats would be one that sat unharmed in Granny's attic for 75 years--not these endless lots of bulk wheats (IMO) Oooh...a photo. Let's see what's in that $149 bag o'wheats: They have that 40-50s look, and I'm guessing an emphasis on later dates--so they're at least sorted, if not searched. Worth $.06 apiece? If you ask me--nope.

Right. Agreed. Between a paypal discount and an existing balance I was able to get one of those bags for less than a hundred dollars, which, if the bag has 2500 wheats, will put the purchase at 3.92 cents per coin. So, I am quite happy with it... on the surface! It remains to be seen if this is a legit deal. All sorts of scenarios are running through my mind on this one: The 40 bags displayed are fakes filled with wood chips, and the pile of coins on the floor is a non-representative collection of bait; or, this supposed windfall lands on ebay every 6 months and I will be one more figure in a parade of suckers who fell for the scam; etc. But I looked on this forum for warnings against the seller and did not find any. And on top of that a poster on this very forum, with a seasoned 894 posts even, considered buying a bag! So we'll see how it goes. I'll report what I find back here to benefit the community.

I think it's a legit seller and you will get 2500 wheats if you win the auction and pay. Whether it will be a good mix is another story. "Good mix" has many meanings. All 40s and 50s with a mix of dates and mint marks- there are 50+ different dates/mint marks from 1941-58, which would amount to about 1/3rd of the set. Some would say that's a good mix!
Again, assume they are 40s-50s and if you got them for 4 cents apiece with discount, even better.
Let us know how you make out and good luck with the searching!

If you look at the feedback specifically on this bag of wheats, buyers were uniformly happy. One person left a posititve but said it was an average lot, but some pretty ones in the 40s and 50s. To me, this is better than average, because most lots I've gotten of wheats have no AU/BU coins in them- already removed by previous searcher.

I assume you are not referring to Rotations Per Minute... I am having trouble figuring out what RPM stands for in coin lexy. Real Pretty Memorials?

Murty, good job--many of those comments pertain to "unsearched" lots--and confirm my suspicions. The seller looks evasive too. I'm going to slide over to a negative because even what's shown in those pics might not represent what you would receive.

Wow, toolhaus.org is awesome. I am still hoping I will be one of the 99.7% "happy" customers. The community will know one way or another ;)
