All the lettering and stars on obverse appear to be polished over, fields have an orange peel affect you get with polished metal. Looks like someone taped over as many of the devices as they could and buffed it out, unfortunately. Just my 2 cents. Report this Post to the Staff
D0ubl3Eagle Pillar of the Community United States 5854 Posts	Posted 06/03/2020 7:33 pm I have my concerns that it would come back cleaned or polished. My concerns stem from the second set of pictures which seem to show the stars, legends, and wreath with the same surface as the fields. If you look at the MS-68 example posted, you can see that all those areas mentioned has some frosting like the portrait and eagle though to varying degrees. Second, the toning on the tops of the wings strikes me as odd. Why would only that area tone but not the fields or lettering around it? If the coin had more toning and someone had cleaned it, the toning between the feathers would be harder to remove. Report this Post to the Staff
fenton Pillar of the Community United States 4989 Posts	Posted 06/08/2020 7:33 pm Nice looking coin but IMHO it has been dipped a few too many times. Not enough to drop it out of mint state, but probably enough to keep it out of gem grades. Guessing you'll get MS-64 PL for this one. As some have mentioned, the cheek seems to be missing original mint frost as do the periphery obverse devices. I do not think this coin has been polished. For a comparison here's my latest acquisition, PCGS MS-65, an 82-P, which has a lot of original frost. Edited by fenton 06/08/2020 7:37 pm Report this Post to the Staff
