Hi,
Trust every body is fine.
Today I am starting with questions about 1864 US Indian Head penny's weight.
I was reading PCGS notes about this coin, and it was mentioned that the weight of US pennies reduced to 3.10 or 3.11 grams from 1864, but I got confused as some one says the pennies from this year(1864) will be 3.11 grams and some other say some pennies will be 4.54 g(before 1864 pennies weight) and some coins will be 3.11 g.
Now, which one is correct?
Because I see some pennies from this year with weight of 4.54 g and do not know whether thay are rare or normal coins?

I am also sharing an image of this year penny with a strong shadow beneath the number "1" and it is unknowing to me.
I appreciate all your kind suggestions.
With regards,
Habib.

Both are correct. The mint issued the 1864 coin in two different alloys - an earlier copper/nickel version and a later bronze version, which was lighter in weight.

Hi,
Thank you for your kind help.
By the way, may you please let me know your opinion about the blackish shadow below number "1" in the image?
Again many thanks.

It is a stained area due to environmental damage.

Probably, but you may want to poke at it a little with a wood toothpick.
