Dear Fellow Collectors, I got this nice 1798 Draped Bust One Cent recently and I believe it is second hair style type coin. Please let me know if you think this coin will straight grade VG10? and also be attributed to 2nd Hair style. Appreciate all your valuable inputs!

I'll say G-04, can't help with the variety.

Thanks Coinfrog! I am a bit concerned on the hit in the middle of the hair... will it make it damaged grade? Let me know your thoughts.

Tough call. The TPGs often give a lot of leeway on lower grade early coppers. I'm hardly an expert on these.

Looks like S-166 which is 2nd hairstyle. I think it has more detail than a G-4. Especially the hair. Strange that the date and LIBERTY are so weak. I think it might straight grade.

Thank you for the inputs Jerry. I am concerned on the rim damage (kind of) in the reverse at 2'O clock. Will it prevent this coin from a straight grade? Please pass on your thoughts.

hard to make out any significant rim damage from your photos. As Coinfrog said earlier the TPG's give older copper some leeway.

Jerry is correct on the variety. I don't think it would get a VG-10 even without the damage. The damage on the rev at 2:00 doesn't bother me that much, at least not from the images. I agree that the damage in the hair left of center and on the chin would be of greater concern.
