Hello all,

Not sure if this is a black beauty but sure is dark enough.

Pictures taken with black and white backgrounds. The white background portrays the color of the coin more accurately.

Thoughts anyone?

Coin may have been subjected to near red heat, and then dropped into water.
Just for fun, I have done this sort of thing myself, and the result is as exactly what we see here.

You get some black looks from check-out chicks when you offer them for payment!

I think this one is legit. It looks like some posted here in the past: The dull finish on the third and fourth images now makes me question this one.

Evident corrosion on both sides. To me, just a discolored coin that's been stored in an environmentally-challenged (damp?) environment for a long time. I don't see "Black Beauty" here at all.

Taking another look at the third image now makes me wonder about this one. I see the color wearing off on some of the highest points. A black beauty shouldn't do that. The metal is darken from the heat. So I'm starting to question this one.

I find these annealing errors so impossible to distinguish from altered coins. Is there a reliable way that an expert can tell the difference with the real thing in hand, or is it as more-art-than-science as it seems?
