Just rather curious what's making Lincoln's ear look like this. PMD? MD?

Interesting. I think it's just a combination of the normal design having a slight ridge along the earlobe and some slight glare, but I am interested to hear what others say.

Possibly Sam, thanks for your input but I don't think it's glare. I've looked at every side of this coin and it still has this weird point. You could be right however, it might have to do with the design, not sure. Here's an upside down photo I just took now for perspective:

Dang dude not sure what to think. That looks like an outie to me. Seems a little sharp for a die crack. I have no idea.

All good, let's see what the others think.

On the upside down picture, I am seeing an extra earlobe.

I see what you see E&V, I'm going to assume that the thing I'm pointing out is just apart of the design.
Interesting, maybe I should make a new topic on this.

It might be a hit from another coin in that area of the ear? If you you might be able to see some contact scratches.

I see no contact marks, I looked at it again and there doesn't seem to be any sign of metal movement or anything of the sort.

Ah, I see it now, I was looking in the wrong spot. Very interesting, I thought you meant the back side of the earlobe, but now I see you meant the front.

Technically I meant both haha, but either works.

Interesting for sure, but I agree with Coop about it looking more like it's from a couple of circulation hits. Both edges look too "linear" to be part of the design. What I'm seeing as the hit to the bottom of the ear appears to be visible and extending towards the jaw (very faint line). Your image is very clear so I took the liberty of enlarging your image Silvercents and added arrows to a couple of areas. EDIT: There does seem to be a light die crack in this area and possibly a raised area from a hit?

Thank you Pete for doing this. Yes I believe it could be a possible that that's exactly what's going on.
I'll agree with you on this one.

YW and the earlobe is interesting. the "die crack" makes me think it is a later die state coin Any chance you can get a full obv and a closeup image with the light source at about K6 (6:00). This might let us see what is in the shadows of the first image.
Thanks.

I tried to do what you said, which was a tad difficult with this specific USB Microscope, but I tried to shine my phone as a more direct light source. Hope these help:
