Hey everyone - wanted to get opinions on this because I'm considering writing to John Wexler about it. I have noticed a large number of 1982 large-date Lincoln cents have the same very minor doubling that is most visible on the space in of the bars of the E in WE in the obverse motto. I have attached an example of one such coin along with a "regular" coin from the same year. I am suspicious that both WDDO-001 and WDDO-004 are in fact this hub doubling or master die doubling. Please let me know what you think.

Suspected doubled working hub or MDDO:

SamCoin, I've noticed that as well. I see so many of them with the same doubling.

I suspect the same thing.

I've written a few posts in the past on this very topic.

I've found nearly all 1982 Large Dates have some extra thickness on LIBERTY and IGWT.

I might add WDDO-006 to that list.

1982 LD dies continue to flummox me as well. I think the ones Wexler has listed are all legitimate DDO's (although I may be biased).

There may be a master doubled die for 1982 but the image you have used as an example is not the same die as WDDO-001. The IB (LIBERTY) doesn't look the same on the two images. Can you post an image of WE for comparison to wexlers images?
And on 004, the E (WE) appears to have some notching on the upper right corners on Wexlers images.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

Glad to hear this isn't just me being crazy and that others have noticed similar things. I think you are correct, Pete - on closer examination, the ones on Wexler's site do all seem legit. I am glad other people have noticed this more minor and very common variety, though.

1982P-1DO-001: (Note the centers of the closed devices, how they are altered on doubled dies)
