In a past post, Coop suggested that I should email John Wexler to see if one of my RPMs was in his hidden files.

He replied after a few days with this message:

The 1956-D Lincoln Cent cannot be attributed as an RPM at his time. Quite a few years ago (the late 1990's) the Wexler Files started to become too large for a single person to manage and I recruited three other people to help with various parts of the files. NCADD President John Bordner took on the task of attributing and maintaining the Wexler RPM and OMM Files. Late in 2012 Mr. Bordner was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and had to cease doing the RPM/OMM attributions. He passed away in January of 2013 while still in possession of those files.

Tom Kalantzis, a friend of Mr. Bordner, was instrumental in obtaining those files and was anxious to take on the job of being the new RPM attributer. It was quickly discovered that there were huge gaps in the files. The problem was that whenever Mr. Bordner was able to obtain a specimen of a new RPM for his personal collection he did not write up the variety or shoot the necessary photos. He did subsequent attributions by coin-to-coin comparisons. Mr. Kalantzis purchased the bulk of Mr. Bordner's collection so as not to lose the coins needed to maintain the files and set about writing up file cards and shooting photos for those varieties Mr. Bordner failed to do. Mr. Kalantzis was doing an excellent job and worked his way through the Lincoln Cent RPMs making it all the way from 1909 through 1950-D and then tragedy struck. Mr. Kalantzis passed away suddenly and without warning in April of 2016.

The good news is that there is now someone who was able to obtain all of the RPM files and RPM coins from the Kalantzis family and I am hopeful that full RPM attribution services will be available by the end of this year. In the meantime as per my attribution guidelines, I can only attribute RPMs for dates within a denomination that are marked as "complete" on my website. If it is a date not marked as "complete", then I do not have the files needed to do RPM attributions for that date. Keep an eye on the website for changes in what is available for attribution.

Does this mean that submitting some of my RPMs that are unlisted, will not work, and I will basically receive the coin back saying it could not be attributed at this time?

The RPMs I wish to submit are between the dates of 1965-1945.

The RPMs from 1909-S to 1950-D are complete. If you have RPMs from that range, you can submit.

1950-S to 1989-D are not complete. You have to wait until they're marked as "Complete" on Wexler's site to submit.

John also mentioned the RPM files for the dimes was also missing because of a death of a member and the files we not returned. So that is why there are missing areas on his listings. If the computer had been created 20 years earlier, just think how many more images and attributions would have been listed on the net. Death is not a friend to coin collectors. Sometimes what is missing is not realized for some time later on. Thanks John for your comments.
