George Washington Wright & Bale Medal?

(1832) George Washington Wright & Bale Medal, First Reverse. Baker-74A. White metal, 45 mm. A left-facing portrait of Washington appears on these medals. An oak wreath appears along the outer edges of the reverse, with text that states, "BORN FEB. 22D. 1732/CHOSEN COMMANDR. IN /CHIEF, JULY 1776/CHOSEN PREST. 1789/ DIED DECR. 14 1799/AGED 68 YEARS. Baker lists these medals as "V. Rare." From The Marlor Collection. More Information: Struck in 1832 by the firm of Charles Cushing Wright and James Bale to celebrate the 100th anniversary of George Washington's birth. In late 1833, the partnership between the two would dissolve, leaving relatively few struck. Several years later, the design was resurrected (Baker 75) with the signed obverse having been partially tooled off and the reverse wreath being modified. Report this Post to the Staff
