The second obverse image holds me back to MS66.

Fairly typical New Orleans strike. Much nicer than average appearance. The rims are in fantastic shape.

The obverse has a few significant contact marks. There is a deep gouge in the hair curls, small but noticeable scratches west of the forehead and on the cheek, and scuffing on the cheek and at the truncation of the neck. MS-65 obverse.

The reverse is much nicer. A small cluster of contact marks on and above the arrows and two contact marks between the eagle's right wing (our visual left) and the wreath are the only noticeable blemishes on the reverse. MS-67 reverse.

Blended grade: MS-66, with a +0.5 point upward adjustment for eye appeal. Net grade: MS-66+.

Great coin!

Judging from the responses perhaps it might have been overgraded a tad, does it deserve the + I wonder.

MS67+ and the seller is asking $6800 flat with no best offer.

Wow. I still don't see how the obverse makes 67 with the gash in the hair curls and the ding in the hair above the ear. It's a wonderful coin, though.

EDIT: When I was looking at the result, my wife leaned over my shoulder, told me I can't have it because I already have a MS-70 and kissed me on the cheek and walked away. I guess that's My MS-70's new way of vetoing my coin lust.

Looking forward to seeing your MS-70 Morgan set with your wife's blessing. I suspect it will look like an empty Wayte Raymond folder.

I can't speak for the price, but the grade seems acceptable to me, I've certainly seen(and owned) worse looking Morgans in 67+ or Star holders, for example:

Some light tan toning is present on that coin and it feels a lot more like a 66 coin to me. If that is your coin then add one point for ownership...lol.

The 98-O is far superior to the 82-S. The green bean says it's strong for the grade.
