Hi,

I purchased recently that coin with an interesting countermark of an eagle head. I never saw it before. Does anyone have any idea of where it can be from?

Best,

Here's an old Forum listing of a Kyzikos AE with a similar c/m listed as a griffin:

Edit: here listed as an eagle...I guess it's open to interpretation:

The "Griffin" was/is a mythological beastie with the head of an eagle
But eagles when depicted generally have that noble look of Zeus about them
Griffins tend to the screaming monster with tongue extended
So they are much the same
With differing 'personalities'
One is heroic the other psychotic
