As I stated I saw 1970D saying that if it weighs 5.75 it has 40% silver in it . Does that apply to other quarters? I understand that the proofs have silver in them . But I have other quarters that weigh 5.74 to 5.78 and it's a -1990,1997 quarter,a state,& a state park quarter.. does that mean I have an error on all of them and if so do I get it sent off for authentication. I have 8 different ones and weighed them up against same type of quarter and from same Mint And the other don't weigh the same just 5.56 or 5.67. Also have over 10 that weigh 5,72-5.74 are they 40% too also when you turn them over on it's side they are mostly shinny (silver)(clad) the other side bronze 70/30 or80/20showing instead of the 50/50 or 60/40 that is on the other quarters that I have.. I am asking about the 40% silver error that are being found . Not the 90% ones John1.
as requested here are the pictures of the coins saw a coin form said if it weighs 5.75it has 40% siver in it. so sending off to get authenticated.looked around and havent seen any post about the coins I have so hopefully its a new discovery. the last pic with the coins on the rim showing from right to left, the 5.75 weight are on the right side there are 5 of them and the other 3 coins on the left are the regular 5.56 weight.

Pretty sure 40% silver quarters weren't made until 1976.

Would be interesting to see clear, high resolution photos of the coin's reeded edge. And, photos of the full coin--obverse and reverse--might help too.

Does anyone know if I have a good find a 1999 ,1990 & 2015 they all weigh 5.75 to 5.79. So far everything I read up on says coins with 40% silver weighs 5.75... I am wrong to think my are 40% silver too ?

Yes, you are incorrect. Your quarters are not 40% silver. Only 1976 dated quarters were 40% silver. They were made one year only.

The quarters you cite have a mint tolerance of 5.44 to 5.90 grams. The spec nominal weight is 5.67 grams with a tolerance of +/- 0.23 grams.

Your quarters are 75% copper, 25% nickel as they should be.

Due to mint tolerance ranges it is NOT possible to separate 40% silver and copper nickel clad quarters or half dollars by weight. You might be able to separate Dollars because their tolerance ranges do not overlap
