I just picked up this 1850 large cent. It's a shame it wasn't properly stored, but I was fortunate to get it out of a box of "culls" - presumably because of the corrosion. Somehow it retained some original color, quite iridescent (the last several photos gives an idea). It has a pronounced strike and exceedingly squared rims, but is there enough detail to identify the Newcomb number? Would this be a candidate for ANACS conservation to salvage any bit of that corrosion, or not worth it?
N-11 is my guess for the Newcomb # for this coin. Used date position and what looks like a faint line between the N on one and N on cent. Grellman's book has this info in it along with R-3 which is the rarity level.
