Quote: So, they were incuse after all. I'm pretty sure at this point. The OP didn't quite state "They are incuse" and the last image could be either, depending on the direction of the light source.

If the op wants an expert's advice with coin in hand, send it to Mr. Mike Diamond. His say will be final and he knows more than any of us when dealing with die issues.

Nope. do NOT agree. You can easily duplicate this PMD (yes, it's PMD) by simply placing a half dollar on top of another half dollar at about a 45 degree angle, then hit the top coin with a hammer. This will give you the EXACT damage ( yes, damage) you are seeing on this coin. You have already received the same answer several times, from people with probably over 200 years of collective experience. Or, don't take our opinions on it! send it in to be professionally graded and ask for the error designation you see. Please let us know the results!

Hi, Well CHASE007 you hit the preverbal nail on the head. And those photos are very educational. (Thanks for the time and effort. Greatly appreciated!) It's amazing how you reproduced what I was inadvertently photographing! And there were many others who understood how light and shadows can play tricks on any optics. Both mechanical and human. Please see below.
At this late date I'm embarrassed, but hope I didn't totally waste the Coin Community's time.
Thanks everyone for the very thoughtful comments and for all of your time.
Regards,

Hi,
(Off Topic) - somewhat;
Well here I am sheltering in place, about 2 months in, finding some entertainment in this hobby, then this post in the Coin Community. (I'm what is called the OP). Needless to say it didn't go great. But after it was all essentially over, 2 individuals in the waning posts on this topic decided to pile on to my experience. Not only did it irk me that my topic ended this way, but the comments they posted are disparaging and left a stink.
After some stewing, I finally decided to clear the air from my standpoint and just not put up with this kind of stuff. So following is a definition of a word (not to be repeated here) that has risen in awareness in some ways because of these times that I think is particularly germane in this situation. So here is what I think of you 2 and of your post's value;
"—————————"
(noun) A person usually male, prone to making outrageously stupid statements and/or inappropriate behavior while generally having a very high opinion of their own wisdom and importance.
Regards,
Here is another thought I had during the duration of this topic that is apart from the above post and is to the others here in the CCF,
"This is something-something about something, that's something. That you just have to believe, is not about nothing."

#1.If I was one of them, then I will repeat what I said. Sorry you had a bad experience here, but you would do well to listen to the opinions of many, many people who told you the same thing. You chose not to listen to them and learn. Now you're mad about it. This is a learning experience. Please continue to post, and learn, from some great people.
#2 I only thought there was one page (instead of 3 pages, of which my reply was on..)on this topic when I replied to you, read the remainder when I went back to this and realized you had the explanation and accepted it. that was MY BAD.
#3 In the future, IMO, it would behoove you to start the topic with something like this - "What caused this?" and get some feedback before you refute the answers given.

Yes I am one of the Two you are most likely talking about I will raise my had and say guilty. The reason for asking for a lock down is you will never come to reason of the facts. Its NOT a error coin its PMD/CONTACT marks. So lets all move on to a new coin to look at. I have a suggestion for you. Send It In to MR WEXLER for attribution and I'll pay the bill if it comes back as a ERROR. Some time ya just gotta say ENOUGH is ENOUGH and move on.This is one of them times.

Quote: Its NOT a error coin its PMD/CONTACT marks. So lets all move on to a new coin to look at. Oh my Lord, the OP admitted he was wrong long ago, why are you still pushing it? I even spoon fed it to you above in case you missed it. If you don't wanna look anymore you certainly don't have to.

As I understand it, things went roughly like this: - OP posts photos, sincerely believes marks are raised, says as much - first few responders (me included) say it's probably PMD (contact marks) - it's pointed out that contact marks should be incuse, not raised - OP is taken at face value, apparently because they feel sincere enough - error experts scramble to figure out why would there be raised marks that look like contact PMD- someone proposes the two-step contact theory, it is discussed for a while - page 1 ends around this point; many readers never got any further - mid-page 2, OP realizes that the marks were incuse after all - upon that realization, the PMD theory is accepted - it is too late to fix the title, which remains unfixed - the ensuing confusion sends the thread into page 3 - by page 3 nobody is quite sure what's going on, especially if they hadn't read page 2 - people who only read page 1 and/or the title keep insisting it has to be PMD- which is how we got into the current mess - those were some really nice photos, by the way, how did you make them? I apologize if I missed any important stages.
