Hey, gang,

I'm still kind of new here and haven't posted much but I have a question about a 1964 mint set I bought recently on ebay. I didn't read the ad well enough and was confused about the listing as 2 lots but when I received it, I understood better. I received two cellophane packs with 1964 coins in both and both from the Philadelphia mint rather than one pack from each of the two mints.

The thing that I find the most curious is the mint token contained inside the plastic pack. It doesn't look like my other set that is in the original envelope and contains the usual plastic token saying Philadelphia or Denver mint.

What do you guys think?

Hey, VDavis. Welcome to the forum!

What you have there is probably a souvenir set from the Philly Mint. They've sold things like that at their gift shop for many years. Appears to be a nice set.

If it is something else, someone more "in the know" than I will straighten it all out.

Ok. That sounds possible. I couldn't find anything on it in the Red Book and I thought the souvenir sets were more recent and only sold during certain years, 80s and 90s.

The cellophane unfortunately is not the original from the mint. Had it been the original, the top and bottom of the set would be light blue. It appears to me as an aftermarket set.

Unfortunately that is an aftermarket put together set. Probably an older set, and it does look like they used nice coins, but still not a real Mint Set.

Appears to have BETTER coins than typically found in a mint set.
