Found one of the coronation medals with excellent details on the coin. The coin is set in a 4in high by 2 in wide solid stainless steel casing. The casing has a small 1 inch square at the top cut into it with small 1/8 inch lip at the bottom of the hole. Is this casing original to the coronation pieces or has it been added?

It's unlikely but not impossible, that the mounting is original. Stainless steel was in its infancy in 1836 and would have been hugely expensive.
